What is Bladder Prolapse?

Prolapsed Bladder is a condition where the wall of the vagina, which supports the bladder, can weaken causing the bladder to prolapse or bulge into the vagina. There are 4 stages of a prolapsed bladder from 1 which is mild, up to a 4 which is severe. Only a diagnosis from a doctor can determine how severe the prolapse is and a proper plan of treatment.

What Causes Bladder Prolapse?

Factors commonly associated with causing a prolapsed bladder are those that weaken the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments such as:

  • Childbirth
  • Menopause
  • Lifting heavy objects
  • Prolonged straining from constipation

Symptoms of Prolapsed Bladder

Because many women’s daily routines are impacted by bladder prolapse it is important to recognize the possible symptoms. The symptoms of a prolapsed bladder may include:

  • pain or discomfort in the pelvic area
  • tissue in the vagina area
  • difficulty in urinating
  • urine leakage during coughing or sneezing
  • lower back pain
  • pain during intercourse

Treating a Prolapsed Bladder

Treatments for a prolapsed bladder depends on the severity of the prolapse.  A severe prolapse may require surgery to repair the prolapse.
